    : How can I order trees and shrubs for wildlife plantings?
    : Many local nurseries carry plants that make good wildlife habitat. In addition, the state operates a nursery in Ames. Orders are taken every year during the winter for spring delivery. The phone number for the state forest nursery is (800) 865-2477. The local NRCS District also sometimes orders plants for wildlife and windbreak plantings. Their number is (319) 377-5960.

    : Cedar Rapids operates a number of city parks. Reservations and other information may be obtained by calling (319) 286-5760. Information about Marion parks may be obtained by calling (319) 377-4846. For other towns or cities in Linn County, contact their respective parks department or their city hall.

    : What are the hunting or fishing seasons for this year?
    : The Iowa Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) is responsible for establishing hunting, fishing and trapping seasons as well as wildlife-related law enforcement. There are two IDNR conservation officers in Linn County. They work out of their vehicles and can be reached on their cellular phones. The officers can be reached at (319)350-2863 or (319)350-2871. The TIP (Turn in Poachers) hotline is 1-800-532-2020.

    : There are several differences between the two agencies. The Iowa Department of Natural Resources is a branch of state government. The IDNR has enforcement responsibility for a number of conservation-related programs including environmental quality and fish and wildlife laws.
